CUMT and UCASAL held the Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Agreement on Establishing the “Joint Research Center for Bio-mining and Soil Ecological Restoration” and co-sponsored the Workshop on Soil Ecological Restoration and Green Mining

On May 25, China University of Mining and Technology and the Catholic University of Salta in Argentina held the online signing ceremony of Memorandum of Agreement on establishing the “Joint Research Center for Bio-mining and Soil Ecological Restoration” and co-sponsored the Workshop on Soil Ecological Restoration and Green Mining. Prof. Song Xuefeng, President of CUMT and Rodolfo Gallo Cornejo, Rector of UCASAL attended the ceremony and signed the MoA.


President Song expressed his sincere congratulations on the signing of the MoA. Reviewing the efforts made by the two sides, Song said, "Since the two universities signed the MoU in October of 2018, we have seen close staff exchanges and mutual communication, which have consolidated and continuously deepened our friendship and collaboration relationship. The joint research center is not only an important expansion to the existing cooperation programs, but also an innovation in our cooperation model. We hope that the joint research center will proactively practice the concepts of green and sustainable development and a community with a shared future for mankind, benefiting the ecological building and social development in Argentina and China. We also hope that the Center will help advance collaboration of our two countries under the One Belt and One Road initiative, and make a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our two countries’ diplomatic relations in 2022."


Rector Rodolfo Gallo Cornejo appreciated CUMT’s support for establishing the joint research center. He said, “China and Argentina share the same vision and target with respect to environment protection, and the in-depth interaction and exchanges between the two universities have laid a solid foundation for the co-building of the joint research center.” He expected the collaboration will contribute to the ecological and environmental protection in Argentina and China and promote the harmonious development between society and nature.


Mr. Pablo Obregón, General Consul of Argentina in Shanghai and Jiangsu, said, “China and Argentina put science and technology in an important position in its social and political agenda. The joint research center will improve people’s wellbeing through technology, ensure the rational development of resources while promoting the sustainable growth of ecology and economy, and also further enrich the connotation of Xuzhou - Salta sister city relations.”


After the signing ceremony, CUMT and UCASAL co-hosted the Workshop on Soil Ecological Restoration and Green Mining. Experts and scholars from the State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Safe Mining at CUMT and the Faculty of Engineering at the UCASAL shared ideas on the key technologies of soil ecological remediation.


Ms. Carolina Sánchez, Argentina National Mining Secretary, Vice Rectors of UCASAL, including Federico Colombo Speroni, Dario Arias, and Alejandro Patrón Costas, teachers and students from UCASAL, and representatives of the Salta government and business community, as well as CUMT Academy of Science & Technology, International Office, and State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Coal Mining attended the activities.
