2017 AMEE & Belt and Road Initiative Summer School Program was held in CUMT

On June 19, 2017, the opening ceremony of 2017 AMEE & Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Summer School Program was held in CUMT. Totally 32 foreign and Chinese students from 13 universities in 13 countries attended the ceremony.

Mr. Zhang Zhenkang, secretary-general of the International Higher Education Alliance for Mining, Energy and Environment (AMEE), director of CUMT International Office, delivered a welcome speech. He said since the first summer school program held by CUMT in 2014, more and more foreign students and universities actively participated in the program. Especially this year, the program attracts more partner universities from BRI countries to participate in. The aim of the program is to provide a platform for the students from different culture backgrounds to exchange new knowledge and new ideas. The program this year specially arranges various activities including course studies, seminars, field practices, and culture experience. Mr. Zhang hoped the international students will further understand and know about CUMT, Xuzhou and China through these activities, share their experiences in China with more people in their home countries and promote the people-to-people exchanges.  

Artur Kaleta from AGH University of Science and Technology(Poland) and Nguyen Thi Hai Anh from Hanoi University of Mining and Geology(Vietnam) made speeches respectively on behalf of international students. Artur said,I appreciate CUMT provide me with this precious opportunity. The professional courses set by the program, including mining technology, mine safety, fit perfectly with my major. I believe the program will generate positive effect on my future career. I expect the learning life in the following three weeks, and I believe it will definitely deepen my understanding on Chinese culture. Hai Anh said,I know about China through Chinese TV series a long time ago. The summer school program realizes my dream to experience China in person. I believe the program will broaden my eyesight and make more new friends.

 

Mr. Li Wei, director of CUMT Innovation Training Center, showed the students the labs in the University Student Innovation Education Base, including driver-less car, AI hardware, 3D print, creativity workshop. The students showed great interest in every lab. Especially in the creativity workshop, they highly appraised for a stereomodel made of just a piece of paper. In the robot innovation lab, everyone tried to operate the robot, which won the Eastern Conference Championship in RoboMaster 2017. The lab here is huge and nice! Nguyen Thi Hai Anh, a Vietnamese girl smiled and said,I like here and expect the following courses!

Before the opening ceremony, the students visited culture relics in Beijing, including the Great Wall and the Temple of Heaven. They also attended a series of activities in CUMT, such as ice-breaking and making dumplings .  

It is reported that the length of summer school program this year is totally 26 days. It attracts 32 foreign and Chinese students from 13 universities of AMEE member universities and BRI country universities, including West Virginia University(USA), the University of Western Australia(Australia), the University of Wollongong, the University of Queensland(Australia), Saint-Petersburg Mining University(Russia), TU Bergakademie Freiberg(Germany), AGH University of Science and Technology(Polan), Montanuniversität Leoben(Austria), University of Mining and  Geology St. Ivan Rilski(Bulgaria), Hanoi University of Mining and Geology(Vietnam), Mongolian University of Science and Technology(Mongolia), German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology(Mongolia) and CUMT.

Representatives from AMEE Secretariat, CUMT International Office, Sun Yueqi Honors College and University Student Innovation Education Base attended the opening ceremony.
