Speech by Wendell Brase, Associate Chancellor of University of California, Irvine, USA
Workshop
On the morning of June 30, the Workshop on Green Energy and CCUS jointly organized by CUMT and University of California, Irvine (UCI), USA was held at A407 on the fifth floor of Boxue Building No.5. The Workshop was hosted by the International Office and organized by the School of Low-Carbon Energy and Power Engineering. UCI Associate Chancellor Wendell Brase, CUMT Vice President Bian Zhengfu, leaders from the International Office, Office of Laboratory & Equipment Management, and the School of Low-Carbon Energy and Power Engineering, as well as nearly a hundred teachers and students, attended the workshop.
In his speech, Vice President Bian Zhengfu warmly welcomed Associate Chancellor Wendell Brase. He stated that Associate Chancellor Wendell Brase made his first visit to CUMT in January 2020, when cooperation relationship between the two universities was established. In May of that year, we signed the memorandum of cooperation, laying a solid foundation for subsequent cooperation between us. Both UCI and CUMT are conducting talent cultivation and scientific research around green energy. It is hoped that this workshop will strengthen our cooperation in talent cultivation, joint research, publication of co-authored papers, and co-organization of international conferences and contribute to closer relationship between the two universities.
Wendell Brase said that during his term as associate chancellor of University of California, Irvine, he has been committed to making UCI the most energy-efficient among research-oriented universities in the United States. He expressed his thanks to CUMT for organizing this workshop, and was honored to recommend Robert Mroz, the founder of HY-Tech Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and Jark Brouwer, Director of the Clean Energy Center at University of California, Irvine, to have discussions on the topic of green energy with scholars from CUMT.
At the workshop, Robert Mroz, founder of HY-Tech Biotechnology Co., Ltd., delivered a report titled “Algae based carbon capture system”. Jark Brouwer, Director of the Clean Energy Center at University of California, Irvine, reported on “The role of hydrogen in decarbonization of the Earth’s energy system”. Wendell Brase gave a report on “A review of current climate and its solutions”. Zhou Huaichun, Dean of the School of Low-Carbon Energy and Power Engineering, CUMT, gave a report on “The transmission and dissipation theory of viscous energy flux in compressible and viscous fluid flows”. Deputy Dean Liu Fang delivered a report on “Review of research on low-carbon energy and energy storage”. CUMT faculty and students had in-depth exchanges with foreign experts on green and low-carbon energy, carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
