Academic lecture by Professor Wendell Brase, Associate Chancellor 

of the University of California, Irvine


On the morning of December 9th, Professor Wendell Brase, Associate Chancellor of the University of California, Irvine, visited CUMT and delivered a lecture. The event was attended by Vice President Wang Zhongbin, head of the Laboratory and Equipment Management Department, laboratory technical staff, and a representative audience of faculty and students, totaling over 100 participants. The event was chaired by Wu Zhuwu, Director of the Laboratory and Equipment Management Department.

Vice President Wang Zhongbin delivered a welcoming address on behalf of the university. He briefly introduced CUMT's history, its progress in building a "Double First-Class" university, and highlighted CUMT 's commitment to becoming a premier institution characterized by excellence in resource and energy studies. He noted that the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is a world-renowned university that leads globally in areas such as green campuses and smart laboratory construction. Vice President Wang expressed his anticipation for future pragmatic and in-depth cooperation between the two universities in various fields, including student exchange programs, faculty development, and collaborative research.

Professor Wendell Brase then delivered a lecture titled " Smart Labs Impact on Climate Emissions and Payback Savings and Benefits," in which he outlined the initiatives undertaken by the University of California, Irvine, in architectural design, energy management, and smart laboratory construction as part of its green campus efforts. Dr. Kathryn A. Ramirez-Aguilar from the University of Colorado Boulder presented via video on the topic "Equipment Sharing in Laboratories at the University of Colorado Boulder." Her presentation detailed the strategies employed by the Boulder campus to reduce operational costs, expand laboratory space, and maximize resource efficiency through the sharing of laboratory facilities and equipment.

Following the presentations, Associate Chancellor Wendell Brase held in-depth discussions with the heads of CUMT’s Laboratory and Equipment Management Department and the School of Low-Carbon Energy and Power Engineering. The discussions centered on potential collaborations between the two universities in areas such as research project partnerships and training programs for laboratory technical staff.
