CUMT Delegation Visited Vietnam and Thailand and Established Thailand Alumni Association

From May 19 to 25, Vice President Li Qiang led a delegation on visits to Vietnam and Thailand. The delegation visited Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG), Hanoi University of Science and Technology(HUST) in Vietnam, and Shinawatra University in Thailand. During the trip, they paid visits to the Chinese Embassies in Vietnam and Thailand and attended the inauguration ceremony of the Thailand Alumni Association.
In Vietnam, the delegation paid a visit to the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and held a working meeting with Education Counselor Zheng Dawei. Li Qiang detailed the achievements of CUMT’s collaborations with Vietnamese institutions and reported on the preparations for establishing the Vietnam Alumni Association. Zheng Dawei fully affirmed CUMT’s efforts in international education and suggested focusing on joint research and dual-degree programs with top universities in Hanoi, as well as developing disciplines that meet the growing demands of Vietnamese students to enhance the quality and depth of cooperation. During a meeting with Tran Thanh Hai, President of HUMG, both sides reviewed the two-decade-long partnership and its fruitful outcomes, exchanging ideas on student training, faculty exchanges, and research collaboration. In discussions with Vice President Tran Ngoc Khiem of HUST, they shared progress on jointly funded and implemented scientific projects and reached consensus on co-hosting academic conferences and conducting research initiatives.
In Thailand, the delegation paid a visit to the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and held a working meeting with Education Counselor Xu Lan. Li Qiang expressed gratitude for the embassy’s support for CUMT’s alumni in Thailand and provided updates on the work of the Alumni Association Headquarters. Xu Lan praised CUMT’s contributions to promoting cultural exchanges between China & Thailand and recommended that the alumni association integrate resources to create distinctive brand events, innovate organizational models to strengthen cohesion, and leverage alumni networks to foster bilateral relations. During talks with Zhou Fei, President of Shinawatra University, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on continuing education collaborations and reached multiple agreements on building new platforms to cultivate globally competitive talent. At the inauguration ceremony of the Thailand Alumni Association, Li Qiang, on behalf of CUMT and the Alumni Association Headquarters, congratulated the establishment of the association and presented its flag. Hua Xiaoyi from the Class of 2005 majoring in Law was elected President of the Thailand Alumni Association, and Dong Ming from the Class of 2008 majoring in Materials Science was appointed Secretary-General. Zhong Xiaodong, Director of the Office of External Cooperation and Development and Secretary-General of the Alumni Association Headquarters, issued their certificates of appointment.
Aligned with the trip’s objectives, the delegation also held discussions with alumni in Vietnam and Thailand, visited alumni-founded enterprises, and gathered their insights on CUMT’s development. These interactions highlighted the patriotism and global perspective of CUMT’s overseas alumni. The delegation included leaders and staff from the Office of External Cooperation and Development, International Office, College of Continuing Education, and Alumni Association Headquarters.
