Initiative
On April 18, the Initiative for Global Higher Education Cooperation in the Energy Sector was jointly released by China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) together with 44 other universities from both China and abroad in Xuzhou.
The initiative was initiated by CUMT and jointly supported by 36 domestic universities, including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi’an Jiao Tong University, University of Science and Technology of China, Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Jilin University, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), China University of Petroleum (Beijing), and North China Electric Power University, as well as 8 universities from abroad, including the University of Strathclyde (UK), AGH University of Krakow (Poland), Ural State Mining University (Russia), Catholic University of Salta (Argentina), and National University of San Marcos (Peru).
The initiative notes that the global energy landscape is undergoing profound transformation, with energy security and sustainable development becoming major shared challenges for all nations. As a core pillar of talent cultivation and scientific and technological innovation, higher education serves as the key force in addressing energy challenges and advancing the green and low-carbon transition.
In line with the new development philosophy of innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development, the initiating universities put forward four major commitments: Adhere to innovationdriven development to consolidate the core foundation of energy education; Advance digital empowerment to build a new AIdriven ecosystem for energy education; Uphold openness and inclusiveness to build a global cooperation platform for energy education; And implement the principles of green and shared development across the entire chain of sustainable energy development.
The initiative calls upon universities in the energy field, research organizations, industries, and international institutions worldwide to join in supporting this initiative. Through practical cooperation at multiple levels, we will provide solid talent support and momentum for innovation in global energy transition and development, and work together towards a clean, secure, and inclusive energy future.
