On August 12, Vice Presidents Ye Jihong and Duan Chenlong met with the delegation led by Oscar Frías, former Vice Minister of Energy and Mines of Peru, in Conference Room B101, Xingjian Building. Segundo López, Chairman of SBL Anthracite Company of Peru, and Chen Wen, Chief Scientist of China Minmetals Corporation, accompanied the visit. Vice President Duan Chenlong presided over the meeting.
Ye Jihong extended a warm welcome to Frías and his delegation, and briefly introduced the university's development history, operational status, and future plans. She noted that Peru is an important partner of China in Latin America under the “Belt and Road Initiative”, with a solid foundation for cooperation in the mining sector. She highlighted that benchmark projects carried out by China Minmetals in Peru, such as Las Bambas, have built a strong bridge for China-Peru industrial cooperation. There is broad prospect for collaboration among all parties in areas such as technical cooperation and international talent cultivation. The university is willing to leverage its disciplinary, scientific research and talent advantages to continuously deepen China-Peru collaboration in energy and mining science and education, contributing to the global energy transition and green governance of mineral resources.
Oscar Frías expressed gratitude for the CUMT's warm reception. He provided a detailed overview of the current state and practical needs of Peru's mining industry, expressing the hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to promote substantive cooperation between China and Peru in technical cooperation and joint talent cultivation. He looks forward to leveraging CUMT's well-established technical systems and comprehensive education platforms to support the green and sustainable development of Peru's mining industry.
Duan Chenlong stated that Peru is rich in mineral resources and that there is broad potential for university-enterprise cooperation with CUMT in areas such as mining operations, ecological restoration, mine safety and occupational health, mineral processing and clean coal utilization, as well as renewable energy development. He welcomed faculty, students, and technical professionals from Peruvian universities and enterprises to pursue degrees or participate in short-term technical training in China, thereby building a two-way, industry-education integrated model for international talent cultivation.
During the meeting, the School of Energy, the National Excellent Engineers College, and the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Carbon Resource Clean Utilization delivered presentations on their respective institutional developments and scientific research achievements. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including technical cooperation, joint training of China-Peru mining talents, and collaborative application for international research projects, reaching multiple consensus on cooperation.
During the visit, the delegation toured the CUMTs Student Innovation Training Center, the Smart Mine Industrial-Grade Immersive Teaching Center, and relevant key laboratories, and also visited local equipment manufacturing enterprises.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the International Office, the School of Chemical Engineering, the School of Energy, the National Excellent Engineers College, along with faculty representatives.
