Professor Feng Peizhong and doctoral student Guo Weijia from the the School of Materials Science and Physics attended the 16th International Symposium on "Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis" (SHS-2024) in Armenia.

At the conference, Professor Feng Peizhong made a presentation titled "Preparation And 1000-1600°C High-temperature Anti-Oxidation Mechanism of MOSI2-Based Composite Coating by Doping ZRB2-SIC on NB Substrate." Doctoral student Guo Weijia made a presentation titled "Low-PT Nanoparticles-Decorated Micro-Nanoporous Cuox Confiferous Electrocatalysts Via Thermal Explosion Reaction And Dealloying." Experts showed great interest in the representations, engaging in extensive question-and-answer sessions, discussions, and exchanges.

Professor Feng Peizhong chaired Session 10: SHS in Surface Engineering as a session chair and closed the symposium with co-chair Dmitry Shtansky.

During the symposium, Professor Feng Peizhong engaged in extensive exchanges with Professor E. A. Levashov, the Director of the SHS Education Center and the Department of Powder Metallurgy and Surface Coatings at the National University of Science and Technology MISIS (formerly the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys). Professor Levashov is also a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences. The focus of these discussions was on the progress of the international collaboration projects. The team, consisting of three Chinese members, along with seven members from the Russian side, discussed the overall progress and annual advancements of the project, including research tasks, publication of papers, key breakthroughs, and other aspects.

To further enhance international influence of China University of Mining and Technology in the field of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), Professor Feng Peizhong applied for the hosting rights of the 17th International Symposium on "Self-propagating High-Temperature Synthesis. Following a vote by the committee members, it was decided that the 17th Symposium will be held in Xuzhou, China, in 2026.

International Symposium on "Self-propagating High-Temperature Synthesis is the longest-standing, most influential, and highest-level international academic conference in the field of SHS worldwide. It gathers SHS experts and researchers from around the globe to delve into the latest advancements, breakthroughs, and challenges in this field, inspiring new collaborations and innovative ideas. With a history spanning 33 years, it serves as a crucial platform in the international SHS community. SHS-2024 saw participation of over 100 attendees from nine countries, including Russia, the United States, Kazakhstan, China, Italy, Greece, Belarus, Georgia, and South Korea.
