Recently, the National Energy Administration announced updated results of China's participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Cooperation Partnership Network. CUMT has been approved as a member institution and appointed as Vice Chair of the Clean Fossil Energy Group.

Established in 1990, the APEC Energy Working Group (EWG) operates under the Committee on Trade and Investment's Economic and Technical Cooperation Subcommittee as one of APEC's 14 specialized working groups. Serving as a multilateral cooperation framework for energy across APEC's 21 member economies, the EWG aims to advance regional energy collaboration. Its mission is to maximize the energy sector's contributions to economic and social well-being while mitigating environmental impacts from energy production and consumption. The EWG comprises four expert groups: Clean Fossil Energy, Energy Data and Analysis, Energy Efficiency and Conservation, and New and Renewable Energy Technologies.

The National Energy Administration leads China's engagement in APEC energy cooperation. Since 2017, it has established and refined the "China APEC Energy Cooperation Partnership Network" to strengthen energy collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region, making active contributions to regional energy security and green low-carbon transition. As a new member of both the Clean Fossil Energy and Energy Data Analysis groups—and holding the Vice Chair position in the former—CUMT will leverage its industry expertise and academic strengths to participate in institutional activities under the EWG framework. This includes organizing and implementing APEC energy projects, conducting technical evaluations of initiatives and best practices, deepening engagement in regional energy governance, and providing intellectual support for global energy development.
