Speech by Newly-recruited Teacher
On October 11, CUMT held 2024 International Young Scholars Yueqi Forum. Xie Heping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the the State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Construction and Healthy Operation and Maintenance of Deep Underground Engineering, and Liu Bo, the secretary of CUMT Party Committee, graced the main forum with their presence. In addition, heads of relevant functional departments, schools and research platforms of CUMT actively participated in the forum. This session of forum attracted more than 600 outstanding scholars from various countries and regions around the world engaging in lively discussions both online and offline. The webcast of the event reached an audience of over 12,000 viewers. Vice President Ye Jihong presided over the main forum.
Liu Bo delivered a warm welcome speech, greeting the distinguished experts and scholars in attendance. She then reviewed the founding landscape of CUMT, including its historical distinctiveness, regional uniqueness, and industrial strength. She briefly traced the genesis and past iterations of the “Yueqi Forum”, highlighting its transformation into a renowned talent magnet for CUMT, effectively attracting a diverse range of talents. In line with the essence of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and the National Education Conference, she emphasized CUMT’s pivotal role as a “double first-class” university, with the mission of spearheading the construction of a robust talent pool and fostering independent talent cultivation. She stressed CUMT’s commitment to the strategy of nurturing talent by adhering to the core principle of “trusting, relying, serving and achieving teachers”. CUMT attaches great importance to the growth and development of young teachers, and provides a vast arena and solid support tailored to their development throughout the comprehensive talent development cycle. In conclusion, Liu Bo cordially invited all aspiring young scholars to embark on a voyage of discovery with CUMT through the Forum, fostering a “community of shared destiny” and jointly contributing their insights and efforts to the advancement of the modernization with the Chinese characteristics.
Xie Heping delivered a keynote speech entitled “Exploring Cross-border Cross-innovation in CCS→CCU and Direct Hydrogen Production from Seawater”. He nostalgically recalled his academic and professional journey at CUMT and meticulously explained three groundbreaking and revolutionary scientific advancements in the fields of carbon capture and storage (CCS) transitioning to carbon capture and utilization (CCU), deep in-situ fidelity coring, and in-situ direct electrolysis of seawater for hydrogen production, among others. He shared his innovative perspectives and practical experience in sustaining interdisciplinary scientific endeavors and presented the visionary concept of the “Oriental Peace” oceanic hydrogen production ship. He exhorted the budding talents to follow the path of CUMT’s original and pioneering scientific and technological research, to uphold the spirit of science, and to strive for more scientific breakthroughs and technological innovations.
Qi Huiyong, Director of the Department of Organization of CUMT Party Committee, made a report entitled “Future CUMT, Our Common Cause”. From the four aspects of “extraordinary CUMT”, “ambitious CUMT”, “promising CUMT”, and “people-oriented CUMT”, Qi Huiyong gave a detailed introduction to CUMT’s history, development status and future planning, as well as CUMT’s development picture. As a representative of young teachers, Yin Yichen, a newly-recruited teacher and special researcher of the School of Materials Science and Physics, made a report titled “From CUMT to CUMT: Sharing of Education and Employment Experience”, in which he shared his own education experience in CUMT and his academic research and growth in the master’s and doctoral stages of education, and expressed that the atmosphere of CUMT’s love for talent and support for young talents attracted him to return to work in his alma mater, and he was confident that he would work for CUMT with its support and personal efforts. Gui Xiahui, Director of the Teachers Work Department of CUMT Party Committee and Director of Human Resources Department, delivered a speech on talent policy entitled “Gather at CUMT, Create the Future - Exchange of Talent Policies”, in which he introduced the relevant situation of CUMT and Xuzhou in detail, and preached CUMT’s talent introduction policy in the form of appointment, welfare treatment, platform support, service guarantee, etc. He focused on the relevant policies for postdoctoral students and postdoctoral scholars, summarized the advantages of CUMT’s disciplines and platforms, and put forward suggestions for young scholars to engage in teaching and research work in the university.
Ye Jihong emphasized during her presidency that CUMT has the utmost respect for talent. On the afternoon of October 11, each teaching and research unit organized its own subforum. On the morning of October 12, the participating scholars embarked on a comprehensive campus tour and an insightful study tour of the city of Xuzhou, deepening their understanding and expertise of both the university and the city itself.
