From June 22 to 28, a delegation led by Liu Bo, Secretary of the CPC Committee of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), visited Greece and Serbia with the Jiangsu Provincial Delegation, where the delegation visited the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Serbia Zijin Mining, and the Chinese Embassy in Serbia.
During the stay in Greece, the delegation attended the "Jiangsu-Greece Industry-University-Research Cooperation Conference" in Athens. Guests from both China and Greece, including Xin Changxing, Secretary of the Jiagnsu Provincial Party Committee, Nikos Hardalias, Governor of Greece’s Attica Region; and Fang Qiu, Chinese Ambassador to Greece, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Xin Changxing noted that Jiangsu is advancing education development, scientific and technological innovation, and talent cultivation in an integrated manner, actively integrating into the global innovation network with a more open stance, and accelerating efforts to build a globally influential industrial and technological innovation hub. He expressed hope to collaborate with Greece to promote the implementation of more R&D projects, the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and the cultivation of innovative talents with global perspectives, thereby injecting new momentum into the development of both sides.
Liu Bo delivered a keynote speech titled "Practice and Exploration of Industry-University-Research-Application Integration at High-Level Industry-Focused Universities: A Case Study of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT)". She pointed out that CUMT has actively responded to the national "dual carbon" strategy (carbon peak and carbon neutrality) and is committed to building a highland for cultivating top academic talents and industry leaders in the global energy sector, a high-level scientific and technological innovation base, and a base for the transfer and transformation of technological achievements. Facing the era’s demand for developing new productive forces in Jiangsu, the university will continue to strengthen scientific and technological innovation, deepen the integration of industry, education, research, and application, and contribute to promoting the high-quality development of zero-carbon and negative-carbon industries in Jiangsu and advancing ecological civilization.
At the meeting, witnessed by guests including Xin Changxing, Nikos Hardalias, and Fang Qiu, Liu Bo, on behalf of the university, signed an inter-university cooperation agreement with NTUA. Subsequently, Professor Chen Hao from CUMT’s School of Electrical and Power Engineering participated in a roundtable dialogue titled "Exploring Successful Pathways for the Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements". During the visit, the CUMT delegation also held working talks with Athanasios Zisis, Vice President of NTUA, and visited the university’s laboratories.
During the visit to Serbia, the CUMT delegation visited Serbia Zijin Mining. Liu Bo held talks with Su Yongding, General Manager of Serbia Zijin Mining. She noted that CUMT has long been committed to deepening school-enterprise cooperation and promoting the integration of industry and education through various means. She expressed hope to establish a full-chain talent cultivation mechanism with Serbia Zijin Mining, starting from the joint "Zijin Intelligent Control Class," and to create a model case of universities reserving excellent technical talents for enterprises. Su Yongding stated that Zijin Mining has an urgent demand for high-quality talents in the mining sector and looks forward to collaborating with CUMT to innovate talent cultivation models and strive to build the company into a benchmark mining enterprise in Europe.
At the meeting, Liu Bo and Su Yongding jointly unveiled the plaque for the "CUMT Overseas Talent Training Base" at Serbia Zijin Mining, and conducted in-depth exchanges on cooperation in areas such as student internships, employee training, and technical collaboration. During the visit, the delegation also inspected Serbia Zijin Mining’s mineral processing and mining facilities, as well as its training center.
During the trip, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Chinese Embassy in Serbia, where Liu Bo held in-depth exchanges with Tang Dasheng, Counselor of the Embassy. She emphasized that the university attaches great importance to all-round cooperation with Serbian universities and enterprises and will continue to play an active role in promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Serbia. Counselor Tang fully acknowledged CUMT’s contributions to fostering friendly relations between China and Serbia and stated that the embassy will fully support the university in deepening cooperation with Serbian universities and enterprises.
Relevant officials from CUMT’s Academy of Science and Technology, International Office, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and School of Electrical and Power Engineering accompanied the delegation on the visit.
