The opening ceremony for the "Landscape Xuzhou, Cultural and Mining Integration" International Summer School at CUMT was held on October 13 at CUMT School of Mines.
This international summer school was jointly organized by CUMT's School of Mines and International College. It attracted 34 teachers and students from Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg in Germany and AGH University of Krakow in Poland.
During the ceremony, the relevant schools introduced the basic situation of CUMT's mining engineering discipline and the cooperative foundation with institutions like AGH University of Krakow. A class flag was presented to the representative of the summer school participants. Leeroy, an international student from Zimbabwe at the School of Mines, shared his study experience of over six years at CUMT as a current student representative, expressing deep affection and identification with Chinese culture and the university.
During the event, all students from the Class of 2023 of the International Mining Engineering Class (Mining Direction) at the School of Mines conducted face-to-face exchanges with the teachers and students of the international summer school and established communication liaison groups to build a bridge for further in-depth communication. After the opening ceremony, the visiting teachers and students toured the State Key Laboratory for Fine Exploration and Intelligent Development of Coal Resources, gaining an intuitive understanding of cutting-edge scientific research platforms and technological achievements in China's mining field.
It is reported that this international summer school aims to enhance the university's discourse power and influence on the international mining academic and industrial stage, strengthen the global recognition and core competitiveness of CUMT's mining engineering discipline, and simultaneously build a bridge for cultural exchange to deepen young European students' understanding and identification with Chinese culture. Subsequent activities for the summer international school will include specialized lectures on mining engineering frontiers, Chinese cultural study and exchange visits, visits to well-known mining enterprises, and in-depth interactions with undergraduate students from CUMT's International Mining Engineering Class.
