On March 11, President ZHANG Jixiong met with a delegation led by Prof. Namnan Tumurpurev, President of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Mr. Munkh-Ider Narantsatsralt, Executive Director of Erdenes Industrial and Technological Park Limited Liability Company (Erdenes ITP) at the B501 Meeting Room of Xingjian Building. Vice President BIAN Zhengfu attended the meeting. Director of the International Office presides over the meeting.

ZHANG Jixiong extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He reviewed the history of cooperation between the two universities and introduced CUMT's development history, educational strengths, and future plans. He noted that MUST, with its core strengths in engineering, serves as a crucial talent cultivation base for Mongolia's technological industries and infrastructure construction. He emphasized that as two prominent universities with core strengths in energy resources and engineering disciplines, CUMT and MUST have broad prospects for collaboration across numerous academic fields. He also welcomed Erdenes ITP's active participation in university-industry cooperation and its support for talent development. President ZHANG expressed his hope that, with the strong support and commitment of all parties, both universities would deepen collaboration in areas such as joint scientific research, the establishment of overseas industry-academia-research bases, and faculty and student exchange programs, jointly writing a new chapter in China-Mongolia educational exchange and university-industry partnership.

Namnan Tumurpurev expressed his gratitude for the warm reception. He stated that MUST, as Mongolia's leading engineering and technology university, has long been committed to serving national economic and social development. The university has established extensive and in-depth cooperation with industries, research institutions, and overseas universities in fields such as mining and mineral resource development, new and renewable energy, processing and manufacturing, and chemical engineering. He expressed his hope that both universities would deepen pragmatic cooperation, establish a mutually beneficial partnership model aligned with their development needs, and cultivate high-level professionals in the mining and mineral resources sector for both countries.

Munkh-Ider Narantsatsralt noted that Mongolia is rich in natural resources and possesses a solid industrial foundation, offering broad prospects for cooperation with Chinese universities and industries. He fully affirmed the significance of this trilateral cooperation and expressed his hope to further collaborate with CUMT in areas such as technology empowerment and staff training, aiming to achieve complementary advantages and shared development.

During the signing ceremony, CUMT and MUST renewed the Memorandum of Understanding. A trilateral agreement on the “2+2” Joint Training Program for undergraduate students was signed by CUMT, MUST, and Erdenes ITP.

During the talks, participants engaged in in-depth discussions and reached consensus on areas including faculty and student exchanges, the implementation of the joint training program for undergraduate students, graduate student joint supervision, and industry-academia-research cooperation. Following the meeting, the delegation visited the CUMT Museum.

The delegation also included Prof. Tsolmonbaatar Danjkhuu, Vice President of MUST, as well as representatives from the School of Applied Sciences and the International Relations Office, and relevant representatives from Erdenes ITP. Attending the meeting from CUMT were representatives from the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Office, the Academy of Science and Technology, the International Office, the School of Chemical Engineering & Technology, the International College, and the Carbon Neutrality Institute.

The Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST) is a leading national technical university in Mongolia. Founded in 1959, its main campus is located in Ulaanbaatar, with branch campuses in Darkhan and Erdenet. The university comprises 12 schools and 5 national-level research institutions, with over 20,000 students and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members. With engineering as its core feature, MUST's strengths include civil engineering and architecture, geology and mining engineering, mechanical engineering and transportation, power engineering, information and communication technology, and industrial technology.
