Speech by Professor Campbell Booth, Associate Principal and Executive 

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde


On January 16, Tian Feng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), met with a delegation led by Professor Campbell Booth, Associate Principal and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, in Meeting Room B501 of Xingjian Building. The delegation also included Professor Kwok Lun Lo, Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE), Dean of International Affairs, and Research Professor in the Faculty of Engineering, as well as Stuart Shorthouse, Head of International Development and Recruitment in the Faculty of Engineering. The two sides held talks on deepening cooperation between the two universities. The meeting was chaired by Chen Wen, Director of the International Office.

Tian Feng extended a warm welcome to Associate Principal Booth and his delegation, and briefly introduced CUMT's development in recent years, laying a foundation for further in-depth exchanges. He noted that Associate Principal Booth's special trip with the delegation fully demonstrates the British side's emphasis on cooperation between the two universities. He expressed hope that the two sides would take this visit as an opportunity to carry out broader and deeper cooperation in inter-university partnerships, student development, joint research, and other areas, and achieve more fruitful outcomes.

Campbell Booth thanked CUMT for its warm reception. He introduced the University of Strathclyde's development and core strengths. He stated that the two universities have a solid foundation for cooperation in engineering disciplines, and expressed hope that they would further deepen their partnership to jointly promote more breakthrough progress in talent cultivation and scientific research.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the specific directions and models of future cooperation, conducted in-depth discussions on key issues in the cooperation process, and reached several consensuses.

During their visit from January 15 to 17, Associate Principal Booth and his delegation toured the student living areas, general teaching areas, library, and university history museum at CUMT's Nanhu Campus. They also visited relevant laboratories in the School of Chemical Engineering & Technology, School of Environment and Spatial Informatics, and other units.

Heads and faculty representatives from the Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, International Office, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering & Technology, School of Environment and Spatial Informatics, and School of Electrical Engineering participated in the talks.
