Event Scene
On December 30, CUMT held a New Year reception in honor of foreign teachers, who come from 12 countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and Russia, etc. Heads of relevant functional departments and schools where the foreign teachers are based, attended the reception. Vice President Bian Zhengfu attended and delivered a speech.
Bian Zhengfu extended New Year greetings. He briefly reviewed the CUMT's achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services in 2025 and expressed gratitude for the support and dedication of all foreign faculty members. He stated that over the past years, CUMT had continued to expand its international cooperation network, deepened its participation in global education and technology governance, achieved significant results in recruiting experts and introducing intellectual resources, and showcased highlights in cultural exchanges between China and other countries. Standing at the new starting point of the "15th Five-Year Plan," CUMT will continue to advance its open education strategy and looks forward to the active participation of foreign faculty, contributing further efforts to building a world-class university with distinctive strengths in energy and resources.
Subsequently, on behalf of the university, Bian Zhengfu presented the 2024 "China University of Mining and Technology Friendship Award" to Professor Bernhard Müller, a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor of the School of Architecture and Design. In his speech, Academician Müller expressed sincere gratitude for the honor. He highly praised the CUMT's achievements in scientific research, innovation, and international development, noting that the excellent working environment and warm, friendly atmosphere at the university had made him and his family feel a profound sense of belonging and comfort in pursuing academic endeavors. He pledged to continue leveraging his strengths to contribute to the university's transnational research collaborations and the cultivation of internationally talented individuals.
During the event, students from the School of Humanities and Arts performed an erhu ensemble piece, "The Grapes Are Ripe," and a solo song, "Beautiful Mood." The elegant charm of the traditional instrument and the unique appeal of the folk singing style complemented each other, offering the audience a visual and auditory feast.
Foreign faculty members are an important force in advancing CUMT's international cooperation and exchanges and deepening its open education strategy. In recent years, CUMT has actively recruited high-level foreign faculty resources through multiple channels, both long-term and short-term, continuously optimized management and service systems, and encouraged the active role of foreign faculty in teaching and research. In 2025, CUMT employed 55 full-time foreign faculty members and hosted 268 foreign experts and scholars for short-term exchanges and collaborations. The role of foreign faculty in CUMT's open education strategy has become increasingly prominent, strongly supporting the construction of a world-class university with distinctive strengths in energy and resources.
