The opening ceremony

On the morning of June 22, the 2026 International Summer School, co-organized by the International Alliance Higher Education for Mining, Energy and Environment (AMEE) and the Jiangsu-UK University Consortium, opened at the Boxue Lecture Hall of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT). Vice President Ye Jihong attended the opening ceremony and delivered an address, with over 90 Chinese and international faculty and students participating in the event. The opening ceremony was chaired by Dr. Chen Wen, Director of the International Office.

On behalf of the University, Vice President Ye Jihong extended a warm welcome to the overseas faculty and students. She briefly introduced CUMT’s history, disciplinary strengths, international cooperation and exchange activities, and future development plans. She noted that since its inaugural session in 2014, the International Summer School has been successfully held for 11 consecutive years, and has gradually grown into an important bridge connecting different cultures and promoting exchanges and cooperation among universities. She encouraged all participants to take full advantage of the rich academic courses and diverse cultural activities offered by this year's Summer School, to deepen their disciplinary knowledge, broaden their global perspectives, and strengthen cultural understanding, while learning and growing together in a multicultural environment.

Professor Omar Saifouni from EPF Engineering School (France) and Professor Zhai Shilei from CUMT’s School of Foreign Studies delivered speeches as faculty representatives. They noted that this Summer School serves as a cross-border and cross-cultural bridge, bringing together faculty and students from different countries and cultural backgrounds to break down intellectual boundaries, expand international perspectives, enhance mutual understanding through intellectual exchange, and deepen friendship through cultural mutual learning.

It is reported that CUMT’s 2026 International Summer School has been officially supported by the Young Envoys Scholarship (YES) Program of the Ministry of Education and the “Splendid Jiangsu” Program of the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province. The program is being held at CUMT from June 22 to July 3. This year’s event has attracted 31 students from 15 universities, including the University of Liverpool (UK), RWTH Aachen University (Germany), AGH University of Krakow (Poland), University of Wollongong (Australia), Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain), and Irkutsk National Research Technical University (Russia). The program features a welldesigned and integrated curriculum, including lectures by distinguished Chinese and international faculty in CUMT’s leading disciplines, visits to advanced manufacturing enterprises, field trips to ecological civilization demonstration zones, and cultural experiences at Han cultural heritage sites. These activities enable international students to deepen their professional knowledge while appreciating the unique charm of Chinese culture.
