According to the ESI statistical data released by Clarivate in September 2026, the Chemistry discipline of CUMT has entered the global top 0.1% of Essential Science Indicators (ESI) for the first time, ranking 229th among universities and research institutions worldwide. This marks an advance of 956 positions compared with its ranking of 1,185th in January 2017 when it first entered the global top 1% of ESI.

To date, four disciplines of the university (Engineering, Geosciences, Environment/Ecology, and Chemistry) have secured places in the global top 0.1% of ESI, among which Engineering ranks within the global top 0.108‰. In addition, ten disciplines (Engineering, Geosciences, Environment/Ecology, Materials Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, General, Physics, and Biology & Biochemistry) have entered the global top 1% of ESI.

Chemistry is a high-level foundational discipline prioritized for development by the university. In recent years, adhering to the Four Orientations and guided by the Double First-Class Initiative, the university has promoted coordinated development between distinctive advantageous disciplines and foundational disciplines. It has issued the Measures for the Administration of Basic and Emerging Interdisciplinary Construction Projects. Supported by basic and emerging interdisciplinary programs as well as science-engineering integration initiatives, the university has continuously ramped up investment in foundational disciplines including Chemistry, with targeted preferential policies for talent recruitment and cultivation, research platform development, and international academic exchanges.

Thanks to sustained development, Chemistry has achieved remarkable progress in original innovation capacity and international academic influence. It strongly underpins the growth of our flagship disciplines, facilitates the translation of advances in pure science into engineering applications, and deepens fundamental theoretical research within engineering disciplines. All these efforts provide solid support for building our university into a world-class university featuring strengths in energy and resources.
