According to the latest ESI (Essential Science Indicators) ranking released by Clarivate Analytics on September 12, the Physics discipline at CUMT has entered the global top 1%. Among the ESI top 1% are also eight other disciplines at CUMT, including Engineering, Earth Sciences, Materials Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, Environment/Ecology, Computer Science and General Social Sciences. Engineering and Earth Sciences have entered the top 1‰.
In recent years, CUMT has made great efforts to build a world-class university featuring energy resources. As a "Double First-Class" university, we prioritize fundamental sciences by encouraging science disciplines to focus more on engineering applications and engineering disciplines to focus more on theoretical research, which contributed to the enhanced research capabilities of basic disciplines. Physics ranking ESI top 1% marks a big breakthrough in our fundamental research.
ESI (Essential Science Indicators) is a bibliometric-analysis database built upon the Web of Science (SCIE/SSCI). It provides rankings of the top 1% of research institutions across 22 research fields globally based on their research outcomes and research capabilities. ESI is one of the tools to evaluate the international academic ranking and global influence of universities, academic institutions, and countries or regions.
