On May 8-10, the 2018 International Workshop on Flotation Colloid and Interface Science organized by National Engineering Research Center of Coal Preparation and Purification (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”) was held at Mining Science Center of China University of Mining and Technology.
Hans-Jürgen Butt, chairman of Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, chairman of the World Flotation Colloid and Interface Science Association and chairman of the German Flotation Colloid Association; Qingxia Liu, special professor of CUMT, Director of Clean Coal and Clean Energy and Mineral Processing Center, University of Alberta, Canada; Academician of Canadian Academy of Engineering;Academician of Canadian Academy of Engineering and selected candidate of National "Thousand Talents Program";Researcher Michael Kappl and Professor Werner Steffen of Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research; Researcher Martin Rudolph, Head of Process Engineering Group, Freiberg Institute of Resources Technology, Helmholtz, Germany, Associate Editor of Journal of Mineral Engineering, International Journal of Mineral Processing; Dr. Rogerio Manica of University of Alberta, Canada, and other internationally renowned experts and scholars were invited. They made reports on the interfacial scientific issues such as the control of nanostructures on wetted surfaces, the role of microbubbles in mineral flotation processes, and the shedding of particles on liquid surfaces.Professor Fanfei Min of Anhui University of Science and Technology, Professor Longhua Xu of Southwest University of Science and Technology and other domestic scholars also conducted on-site exchanges.Seven teachers and students from the center made reports at the meeting. The two-day seminar was filled with a strong academic atmosphere. The guests' speeches were inspiring and the discussion was enthusiastic. It attracted nearly 100 teachers and students from the center and other colleges.
Through this seminar, the exchange and cooperation between the center and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research was deepened. The two parties plan to hold the second international seminar on Flotation Colloid and Interface Science in May next year, and this will be an influential academic conference in the field of international Interface Science.
On the afternoon of the 8th May, Vice President Guoqing Zhou met with foreign experts and scholars who came to attend the seminar. He introduced the overall situation of our university and stated that the German Max Planck Institute is a world-renowned research institution and its basic research is unique. As a university whose dominant discipline is engineering, CUMT needs first-class basic research as a support. It is hoped that the two sides can exert their respective advantages and conduct exchanges and cooperation in the training of high-level personnel, teacher exchanges, and scientific research. Vice President Guoqing Zhou and Director Hans-Jürgen Butt signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the China University of Mining and Technology and the German Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. The heads of the International Office, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Physics, School of Chemical Engineering & Technology, the Low Carbon Energy Institute, and the National Engineering Research Center of Coal Preparation and Purification participated in the talks.
