CUMT and the University of Queensland Signed New Cooperation Agreements

The Delegation Visited Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology



At the invitation of Griffith University, the University of Queensland and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Australia, Vice President Bian Zhengfu led a delegation to visit the three partner universities from December 4 to 7, 2023.

At Griffith University, the two sides held the 2023 council meeting of the Tourism Confucius Institute. Mr. Bian Zhengfu, Vice President of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), Mr. Zhang Zhenkang, Director of International Office, Prof. Carolyn Evans, Vice-Chancellor and President of Griffith University, Mr. Xia Xing, Director of Greater China Region of Griffith University, the Chinese Dean Shan Xuguang and foreign dean Liao Lianghao of Tourism Confucius Institute attended the meeting. Prof. Carolyn Evans presided over the meeting.


At the meeting, the council members listened to the report on the work of Tourism Confucius Institute made by the foreign dean Liao Lianghao and the Chinese dean Shan Xuguang. After the council meeting, Mr. Bian Zhengfu and Prof. Evans jointly unveiled the “Exhibition of Ten-year Achievements by Tourism Confucius Institute” and visited the exhibition and experienced the immersive activities of traditional Chinese culture.

At Griffith University, the two sides also held the joint management committee meeting of the joint degree program in Civil Engineering, and conducted in-depth exchanges around the establishment of a regular communication mechanism, optimization of program curriculum, arrangement of courses offered by the Australian side in China, connection between English language courses and professional courses, management services to Australian teachers in China, and how to provide better services and learning experiences for students in the new cooperation model. Both sides agreed to make the best of the new cooperation model to introduce more Australia’s advanced education and teaching philosophies and teaching resources, and apply them based on CUMT’s actual situation, thus forming a world-leading Civil Engineering undergraduate program with CUMT’s characteristics. This program is expected to serve as a model for the reform of undergraduate education and teaching at CUMT.

At the University of Queensland, the delegation met with Vice-Chancellor Li Rongyu and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Brett Lovegrove and visited the Rock Mechanics Laboratory and other scientific research facilities. Mr. Bian Zhengfu signed new cooperation agreements with the University of Queensland on behalf of China University of Mining and Technology.

At RMIT, the delegation met with Vice-Chancellor Saskia Hansen and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Ron Wakefield. The two sides reviewed the progress since the meeting of the joint management committee of the joint degree program in Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering this year, and said that they will strengthen teacher exchanges and research cooperation between the related schools under this program. Both sides agreed on the establishment of the joint degree program in Industrial Design and the joint research center.
