“China University of Mining and Technology Friendship Award” is the highest honorary award granted by CUMT to foreign experts, which is used to commend foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to the teaching, scientific research, discipline construction and internationalization. Farid Akhtar is a professor in the Engineering Materials Group of Luleå University of Technology, the only Swedish university with mining characteristics. Professor Akhtar and the team of Professor Feng Peizhong of CUMT were awarded the International Exchange Program between National Natural Science Foundation of China and Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Education in 2015, which led to the signing of Memorandum of Inter-university Cooperation between the two universities in October 2017. Relying on the good foundation of cooperation, in 2020, the team from both sides was awarded Key International (Regional) Cooperative Research Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, which is the first key type of fund project in the materials discipline of CUMT. Since the cooperation, both sides have published 39 academic papers in Corrosion Science, Dalton Transactions and other international journals, carried out several academic conference exchanges, and carried out visits and exchanges of teachers and students, specialized lectures and other cooperation involving nearly 30 people, which injected fresh impetus into the cooperation and exchanges between the two Chinese and Swiss universities with specialties in the mining industry.
