Speech by Academician Yu Aibing, Pro Vice-Chancellor of
Monash University and President of its Suzhou Campus
On March 14, Academician Yu Aibing, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Monash University and President of its Suzhou Campus, Huo Yujia, Vice President of Foreign Affairs, and other five delegates visited CUMT and held a working meeting with CUMT on inter-university cooperation. Before the meeting, Liu Bo, Secretary of the Party Committee of CUMT, met with President Yu Aibing and his delegation. Vice President Bian Zhengfu and President Yu Aibing had in-depth exchanges on the cooperation between the two schools in talent cultivation.
First of all, President Bian expressed his warm welcome to President Yu and his delegation and briefly introduced the history, development of disciplines, international cooperation, scientific research and other aspects of CUMT. He said that CUMT is striving to build the university into a world-class university with energy and resource characteristics, and he believed that international exchanges and cooperation with Monash University will further boost the implementation of CUMT’s three strategies of “Strengthening University with Talents”, “Running School Openly”, and “Characteristic Development”.
President Yu thanked CUMT for the warm reception of this visit. He said that Monash University is the largest research university in Australia and one of Group of Eight in Australia. Monash University attaches great importance to internationalization and has branch campuses or research institutes in Malaysia, South Africa, Indonesia, China, Italy and India. The two universities have a lot of space for cooperation in many fields such as mineral processing, and Monash University hopes that the cooperation in high-level talent cultivation will help the development of the characteristics of CUMT.
Huo Yujia introduced the development history and basic situation of Monash University Suzhou Campus, and hoped that the cooperation between the two universities would further enhance the research level and international influence of the university. Subsequently, the two sides had an in-depth discussion on the cooperation specialties, cooperation mode and policy requirements of joint training of doctoral students.
