President Song Xuefeng met with representatives from visiting institutions including Hanoi University of Mining and Geology in Vietnam, University of Wollongong in Australia, and Virginia Tech in the United States on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of the founding of CUMT. They held in-depth discussions on deepening inter-university cooperation.

During the meeting with Vice President Zhao Xiongchang of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology and his delegation, President Song Xuefeng first expressed a warm welcome and gratitude to them for their participation in CUMT’s anniversary celebrations. He recalled the accomplishments achieved over the past two decades in the development of inter-institutional relations and the education of international students studying in China. He also expressed his hope that both universities would intensify collaboration on talent development, conduct joint scientific research, set up joint science labs, and enhance exchanges of university journals. These efforts are expected to elevate the educational standards and the international standing of both institutions. Vice President Zhao Xiongchang extended his sincere congratulations on CUMT’s 115th anniversary and its remarkable achievements, and expressed his gratitude for the substantial support and assistance provided by CUMT in talents cultivation. He also expressed his aspiration to bring our partnership to new heights by deepening practical cooperation with CUMT.

In the meeting with Professor Ren Tingxiang from the University of Wollongong, Australia, President Song Xuefeng, on behalf of the university, presented him with the “China University of Mining and Technology Friendship Award.” He said that since being appointed as a distinguished part-time professor in June 2017, Professor Ren Tingxiang has made positive contributions to talent cultivation, discipline development, and scientific research at CUMT. Furthermore, he highlighted Professor Ren’s instrumental role in establishing strategic partnership between the two universities. He expressed the hope that, with Professor Ren’s continued strong support, the two universities would deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. Professor Ren Tingxiang thanked CUMT for the honor bestowed upon him. Recalling his long-term collaboration with senior experts and scholars from CUMT, he noted that a solid foundation of cooperation had already been established between the two sides. This Friendship Award, he said, not only honored him personally but also bore witness to the profound friendship between the two universities. Professor Ren committed to contributing more to enhancing collaboration between the two universities.

In his meeting with Academician Dushan Boroyevich, Associate Vice President of Virginia Tech, President Song Xuefeng expressed gratitude for his attendance at CUMT’s anniversary celebration and congratulated him on the wide attention and high praise received for his insightful keynote speech at the 10th International Conference on Energy, Resources, Environment, and Sustainability. He looked forward to establishing an inter-university relationship and engaging in pragmatic collaborations on talent cultivation and scientific research under the strong support of Academician Boroyevich. President Song conferred upon Academician Boroyevich an Honorary Professorship certificate. Academician Boroyevich conveyed his honor at being appointed as an Honorary Professor and pledged to actively contribute to fostering the inter-university relationship and facilitating practical cooperation between the two institutions.
