Speech by Mikhail V. Korniakov ,president of Irkutsk
National Research Technical University (INRTU)
On April 1, a delegation from Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) of Russia, led by President Mikhail V. Korniakov visited CUMT. CUMT President Zhao Hongwei met with the delegation.
Zhao Hongwei extended a warm welcome to the delegation and introduced CUMT’s history, educational achievements, and future development plans. He noted that both CUMT and INRTU share similar historical backgrounds and have made significant contributions to energy sector development and talent cultivation in their respective countries. He expressed hopes to deepen collaboration in mineral processing engineering, development and utilization of rare minerals, aviation material preparation and testing, and ecological environment restoration, building on existing exchanges and mutual learning.
Mikhail V. Korniakov thanked CUMT for the hospitality and highlighted INRTU’s status as one of Russia’s 29 national research universities prioritized by the federal government, as well as its inclusion in Russia’s "Priority 2030" program. He emphasized the alignment of academic disciplines and longstanding cooperation between the two universities, particularly under the framework of the International Society for Mine Surveying. He proposed expanding student exchange programs and jointly applying for international scientific cooperation projects.
Stepan Bykov, Vice President of INRTU, reviewed the history of collaboration between the two universities and introduced INRTU’s strengths in key disciplines, international rankings, and cooperation proposals.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as a mineral processing specialization program for international students in China, summer internships in Russia, and collaborative international research.
The symposium was chaired by CUMT Vice President Bian Zhengfu. Accompanying the delegation were Vice President of INRTU Stepan Bykov and Xia Shuang, Assistant Principal and Director of China Affairs. Representatives from Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, International Office, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, and International College of CUMT attended the meeting.
