From May 10 to 11, 2025 International Workshop on Methane Observation and Quantification took place in Xuzhou, co-hosted by China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), the UN Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), and the International Society for Mine Surveying (ISM), with the School of Environment and Spatial Informatics of CUMT as the organizer.

At the opening ceremony, Prof. ‌Bian Zhengfu,‌ vice president of CUMT, delivered a welcome speech, underscoring CUMT’s 116-year commitment to energy research and national strategic goals. He showcased breakthroughs in air-space-ground collaborative methane monitoring and mine emission reduction, noting CUMT’s edge in precision methane detection as a Double First-Class university with energy-resource strengths. He pledged continued global collaboration to advance methane governance.

The event gathered over 100 experts from 30+ world top institutions, including the ‌UN Environment Programme‌, ‌Environmental Defense Fund (US)‌, ‌Tsinghua University‌, ‌HKUST‌, and ‌Chinese Academy of Sciences‌, focusing on monitoring tech innovations and methane mitigation mechanisms.
