Vice President Zhang Jixiong led a delegation to the International

Mining and Resources Conference

From October 20 to 24, Zhang Jixiong, Vice President of CUMT, led a delegation to visit the University of New South Wales, the University of Wollongong, and RMIT University in Australia, and participated in the International Mining and Resources Expo. The delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with the three universities on key topics such as talent cultivation, scientific research collaboration, and academic exchanges.

At the University of New South Wales, Zhang Jixiong met with Julien Epps, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. The two sides reviewed their history of academic exchanges since the 1980s and the practical cooperation carried out in fields such as mining engineering and electrical engineering. Zhang Jixiong stated that UNSW was an important partner of CUMT in Australia and expressed hope to further expand collaboration in student semester exchanges, summer internships, and dual degree programs, as well as to promote faculty visits and the joint construction of research platforms. Epps expressed willingness to advance relevant projects and cooperation with China University of Mining and Technology.

At the University of Wollongong, Zhang Jixiong held talks with Vice President Joe Chicharo. Both sides highly praised the collaborative achievements in the energy and resources sector since 2010, including the joint establishment of the International Higher Education Alliance for Mining, Energy, and Environment. Zhang Jixiong noted that the UOW was one of CUMT's longest-standing and most fruitful partners in Australia. He proposed further promoting Sino-foreign cooperative education in disciplines such as materials science, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering, as well as strengthening joint doctoral training and the research team initiatives. Vice President Chicharo expressed continued support for multi-level and wide-ranging practical cooperation between the two institutions.

At RMIT University, Zhang Jixiong and Vice President Layton Pike jointly attended a progress report from the management committee of the Sino-foreign cooperative education programs between the two universities and held in-depth discussions on further advancing high-level international collaboration. Zhang Jixiong introduced the future development vision of CUMT, emphasizing the commitment to building an interdisciplinary system and strengthening the internationalization of faculty, centered on the characteristics of energy and resources. He suggested that the two universities explore the joint establishment of cooperative education programs in chemical engineering and environmental engineering, and promote credit recognition and the development of dual degree systems. Vice President Pike expressed agreement and hopes to further expand channels for scientific research collaboration and academic exchanges.

This visit to Australian universities has further strengthened the substantive cooperative relationship between CUMT and its Australian partner institutions, creating new opportunities for student cultivation, scientific research collaboration, and faculty exchanges. It has also injected new momentum into the university's efforts to build a world-class institution with distinctive features in energy and resources. Representatives from the international affairs departments and related faculties of the Australian universities participated in the talks. The delegation from CUMT included officials from the International Office, the Academy of Science and Technology, the School of Resources and Geosciences, the School of Low-Carbon Energy and Power Engineering, and the School of Foreign Studies.
