Address by President Zhang Jixiong
From September 18 to 20, the 9th International Symposium on Coal-Rock Dynamic Disasters and the 7th International Conference on Mine Disaster Prevention and Control was held in Xuzhou, co-hosted by China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), Shandong University of Science and Technology, and the University of Wollongong, Australia. CUMT President Zhang Jixiong attended the opening ceremony and delivered an address. More than 200 experts and scholars from 36 universities, research institutes and enterprises in China, Australia and other countries took part in the conference.
In his address, Zhang Jixiong expressed gratitude to the experts and scholars from home and abroad and gave a brief introduction to the university's reform and development. He noted that the conference, themed "Theoretical Innovation in the Prevention and Control of Mine Coal-Rock Dynamic Disasters and the Application of Intelligent Technologies," focuses on topics including new understanding of the mechanisms of coal-rock dynamic disasters, new theories for monitoring and early warning, and intelligent equipment and automation technologies for disaster prevention and control. It will, he said, surely play an active role in advancing mining disciplines and promoting the high-quality development of the coal industry. Looking ahead, the university is willing to join hands with partners from all sectors to engage in deeper academic exchange and more pragmatic collaborative innovation, proactively serve the country's overall development, and contribute greater strength to safeguarding national energy and resource security and advancing Chinese modernization.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Dou Linming of CUMT, chair of the conference, and Deng Shoulin, vice chairman of the Jiangsu Coal Society, delivered speeches respectively. During the conference, experts and scholars from universities including China University of Mining and Technology, Shandong University of Science and Technology, the University of Wollongong, Henan Polytechnic University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Liaoning Technical University, Northeastern University, Xinjiang University and Shenzhen University, as well as from enterprises such as Huaneng Coal Technology Research Co., Ltd. and CCTEG Coal Mining Research Institute, delivered 30 high-level invited presentations on frontier topics in coal-rock dynamic disaster research, which drew enthusiastic responses from the audience.
It is noted that the International Symposium on Coal-Rock Dynamic Disasters has been successfully held nine times since its inception in 2015, and the International Conference on Mine Disaster Prevention and Control seven times since 2007. Both serve as academic platforms of significant international influence in the field of coal-rock dynamic disasters and mine disaster prevention and control. This year marked the first time the two conferences were jointly held in Xuzhou. The conference further consolidated academic consensus in the field of coal-rock dynamic disaster prevention and control, deepened exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and foreign scholars in disaster mechanisms, monitoring and early warning, and intelligent prevention and control, and is of great significance for fostering new quality productive forces in the mining industry, safeguarding national energy security, and promoting the green, low-carbon and high-quality development of the coal industry.
