From July 16th to 30th , the first time overseas internship program of CUMT’s undergraduate students conducted in the United States. 60 students in three majors, including mining engineering, safety engineering and mechanical engineering, participated in the internship activities.
Overseas internship program received strong support and assistance from the University of Kentucky(UK). On 17th July, UK held a welcoming reception. Prof. G. T. Lineberry, vice provost of UK, Prof. David A. Blackwell, dean of Business School, and Lawrence E. Holloway, dean of Engineering Institute, delivered welcome speeches, and Mr. Tom Wynne, chief operating officer of Alliance Coal LLC, made a report on coal industry development.
Overseas internship program was divided into two parts: academic lecture and field practice. Prof. Zach Agioutantis and other 4 professors delivered 8 lectures totally, including the introduction of mining methods, mine safety management, mine ventilation system, mining economics, mine automation and control, mine data management, mine electrical power system and clean coal energy production.
Students visited many places that are located in Kentucky, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, including long arm exploitation of mine, the largest Toyota manufacturing base in USA, Joyglobal Mining Equipment Manufacturing Company, the Coal Mine Safety Training Center of West Virginia University, Alpha Academy’s Coal Mine Safety Training Center, and the Applied Energy Research Center of the University of Kentucky.
