On April 28,2015, the closing ceremony of the 7th International Conference on Mining Science and Technology(ICMST2015) was held in CUMT. ICMST2015 was hosted by CUMT,and jointly sponsored by the University of Kentucky(USA), West Virginia University(USA), the University of Queensland(Australia), the University of Western Australia(Australia), the University of Wollongong(Australia), Technischen Hochschule Georg Agricola zu Bochum(Germany) and Hanoi University of Mining and Geology(Vietnam). The ceremony was presided by Mr. Zhang Zhenkang, Secretary general of ICMST2015.
Prof. Qin Yong, vice-president of CUMT, expressed his congratulations to the success of the conference and his sincere thanks to the delegates and guests attending the conference. He pointed out, in the past three days, all the 260 academic participants actively discussed around the conference’s topic of “Ecology, Safety and Sustainable Development of Modern Mines”, and sparkled many new ideas. By exchanging new views and technologies, innovative theoretical achievements were gained in six areas, especially in green exploitation and ecological mines, clean coal technology and low-carbon utilization. The achievements fully present the research development in 14 countries and regions, and indicate the development trend of mining science and technology, which will definitely propel new breakthroughs. Prof. Qin highly praised that all the participates shows their responsibility and determination on exploring science. He believed that closer cooperation and exchanges will better tackle the challenges of clean and efficient utilization on energy, fulfill the missions of mine safety, ecology and sustainable development, and climb higher towards the summit of mining science and technology.
Prof. Rajender Gupta from the University of Alberta(Canada), Prof. Gabriel Lodewijks from Technische Universiteit Delft(Holland) and Prof. Geoff Wang from the University of Queensland(Australia) made speeches respectively and expressed their appreciations for CUMT’s dedicated preparation on the conference. Prof. Rajender Gupta said the conference is one of the most successful international mining science conference he ever attended and it will be a wonderful memory in his life. Prof. Gabriel Lodewijks said the chances and opportunities coexist. The conference establishes a bridge to meet with old friends and make new ones, and also provides chances for future exchanges and academic cooperation. He was impressed by the conference’s high-level papers and reports and highly appreciated CUMT’s efforts on the preparation and organizing on the conference. Prof. Geoff Wang expressed that the conference raises the research level of international mining technology, enhances the exchanges between universities. It is not only a regular international conference, but also an international platform for sustainable exchange on the development of energy science.
The conference established “Award for Excellent Conference Papers & Reports by Young Scholars” for the first time. Louis Ngai Yuen Wong form Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Huang Lingzhi from Northeast University(China), Li Zhen from Xi’an University of Science and Technology (China), Hu Guozhong, Yuan Zhi and Zhao Difei from CUMT received the awards conferred by Prof. G. T. Lineberry of the University of Kentucky.
