”Joy in China” Internship Program finished with a success in CUMT

On May 15, 2011, Prof. G. T. Lineberry, Prof. Christopher Bise and Prof. Daniel Tao, from the University of Kentucky, West Virginia University and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University respectively, led a delegation of 20 teachers and students to CUMT for a 3-week Joy in China internship program.

The internship activities consist of academic lectures, experimental training, field practices, cultural experience and mutual exchanges between American and Chinese students. In the 20 days activities, American students learned the basic principal of coal separation by flotation, damage and prevention of rock burst, new development of fire disaster control in coal mine, underground coal mine ventilation system etc. and accepted related experimental training.    

By the visits to New Giant Dragon Energy Company Limited and Yanzhou Coal Mining Company Limited, the delegation learned about coal exploration and separation in China. During the interval of the studies, the delegation also visited culture heritages in Xuzhou and Confucius hometown in Qufu. In addition, CUMT students organized a series of exchange activities, including group discussion, athletic contest, making dumplings etc. Students from both sides exchanged ideas on their university lives, hobbies and future careers.

At the summing-up meeting on June 1, every internship student summarized their studies at CUMT and expressed a great of appreciation for CUMTs dedicated arrangements. Prof. G. T. Lineberry issued internship certificates to every student.

The internship program provides a platform for mutual exchange between Chinese and American students and enhances the friendship of the youths between two countries.
