The opening ceremony of 2016 AMEE Summer School Program was held in CUMT

On June 20th, the opening ceremony of 2016 AMEE Summer School Program was held at the State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics & Deep Underground Mining in CUMT.

Mr. Zhang Zhenkang, Secretary-general of the International Higher Education Alliance for Mining, Energy and Environment (AMEE), warmly welcomed 21 international students of 10 universities from 7 countries. He said seeing is believing, and hoped the international students could know more about CUMTs history and its education through their studies in the summer school program. He also expected them to broadly communicate with Chinese people, personally experience the development of the changing China to better understand China and Chinese culture, and share with their friends about what they see and experience in China when they return home.

On behalf of the international students, Laura from the University of Kentucky and Ivan from Saint-Petersburg Mining University made speaks respectively. Laura said I appreciate CUMT hosts the summer school program. The professional course on mining engineering set by the summer school fits perfect with my major. The specialized lectures with abundant contents are beneficial to enlarge my knowledge and will have active impact on my future career development. I will grasp this opportunity to further deepen my understanding about Chinese culture. Ivan expressed that she wishes to broaden her eyesight through the program and hopes to make more new friends.

Speaks by international student representatives

After the opening ceremony, Associate researcher Liu Jiangfeng from the State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics & Deep Underground Mining led the international students to visit the lab and made detailed introduction on related equipment and technologies in the lab.

It is reported that the length of summer school program this year is totally 26 days. It attracts 21 international students from 10 foreign universities, including the University of Kentucky(USA), West Virginia University(USA), Saint-Petersburg Mining University(Russia), the University of Nottingham(UK), the University of Queensland(Australia), the University of Western Australia(Australia), AGH University of Science and Technology(Poland), Hanoi University of Mining and Geology(Vietnam), Mongolian University of Science and Technology(Mongolia) and German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology(Mongolia).
